Clarion County, Pennsylvania is located in the north central region of the state.
The Marcellus shale is roughly 50 feet thick in this county. As of September, 2009 only one Marcellus well had so far been drilled in the county. Drilling for this well by Interstate Gas Marketing Inc began on March 17, 2009 in Toby Township. It is located between Concord Church and Cherry Run Roads. Update: EQT Corp began a vertical well in the southwest of Porter Township to the west of Longpoint Road. The company also had a permit for a second well at the same location. Citrus Energy was also planning to drill before the end of 2009 in Highland Township.
