Welcome the the GO-PHER-IT Workshop!

My personal philosophy about learning computer skills is that the only way to learn is by doing. The exercises in this and later tutorials will be easy to follow and require no specialized knowledge. If you get stuck, please ask questions as others may be snagged at the same point that you are.

In this tutorial you will learn:

  1. How to conceptualize gopher and where it fits into the scheme of Internet tools.
  2. How to analyze client-server systems and their relationship to gopher,
  3. How to use a very simple e-mail interface to gopher that anyone with Internet e-mail can use.
  4. How to decode a gopher bookmark and what a gopher bookmark is.
  5. Visualize the process of pointing a gopher client to a gopher server.
