Jefferson County, Pennsylvania is located in the northwest central part of the state between Forest County to the north, Clearfield County in the east, Indiana County to the South, and Clarion County in the west.

According to a September, 2009 report Seneca Resources began drilling two vertical Marcellus shale wells on August 8.
