Tenaska Resources, LLC is a natural gas exploration and production company formed in 2008 by Tenaska Energy, Inc. It is a stand-alone company that is managed, but not owned by Tenaska Energy, Inc. and Tenaska Energy Holdings, LLC (collectively called “Tenaska”). It focuses on the Marcellus shale formation. Tenaska is a large, privately-held, diversified public utility headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. It is among the top ten natural gas marketers in the U.S. According to the company's 2009 Annual Report, at year-end Tenaska Resources, LLC had established a leasehold of 47,000 acres in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

The company was in the process of acquiring additional Marcellus shale leases in both Pennsylvania and West Virginia and had begun a drilling program there. By the close of 2009, Tenaska had drilled 7 exploratory wells in West Virginia out of nine that were permitted. The objective of these wells was to prove the existence of commercially recoverable natural gas reserves. The wells were drilled by another Tenaska subsidiary known as Tenaska Drilling Services, LLC.

An April, 2009 report found a landman representing Tenaska leasing land near Metz in rural Marion County, West Virginia a few miles miles northwest of Fairmont, West Virginia.

In September, 2009 a report appeared mentioning that Tenaska had been drilling along Coal Lick Road a couple of miles northeast of Albright in Preston County, WV. The Cheat River passes very near Albright.

According to a March, 2010 press release, the company through its affiliate, Tenaska Midstream Services, LLC, was building a 16-mile gas gathering pipeline in Preston County, WV that was to connect with a Columbia Gas Transmission line bringing gas to Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. The line was to be built in partnership with Superior Appalachian Pipeline LLC with targeted completion during the 4th quarter of 2010. This new line was also expandable to connect up at a later date with the Texas Eastern Pipeline. The gathering system was to transport gas from Tenaska wells located in Preston Co. and be operated by Superior Appalachian.
