Warren, Pennsylvania-based D & I Silica is a provider of frac sand to the natural gas drilling industry. There was a press release in December, 2009 to the effect that D & I had received a $700,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Rail Freight Assistance Program administered through PennDOT. These funds were to be used to build two new transloading facilities and improve functionality of two existing ones for transloading silica sand from trains to truck and transport out to gas well sites. The new facilities and improvements to existing ones were to be built in Cameron, Luzerne, McKean and Tioga counties in order to supply sand to the drilling industry for Marcellus shale wells.
