Here is where some info about Schlumberger should go. This article is still a stub and needs your attention. It does not have a template and contains minimal information. Please dive in and help it grow!
Schlumberger Ltd (SLB.N) (aka Schlumberger Technology Corp.) is one of the largest oilfield services companies in the world. It makes available services and materials to oil and natural gas producers.
Among other things, Schlumberger provides pressure pumping technology for Marcellus shale wells.
The company is one of the top three manufacturers of fracking fluids. Its two competitors are BJ Services and Halliburton.
According to a February, 2009 report the company had purchased 90 acres of land in Holding Point Industrial Park, Horseheads Center, a few miles north of Elmira in New York's Chemung County. The company planned to invest $30 million for new offices to service natural gas drilling in the Southern Tier. It was expected to house $120 million of equipment and technology. It was to supply drilling sites within a 300 mile radius primarily in Pennsylvania's Northern Tier.
The building was to cover 65 acres and include 400,000 sq. ft. that were to be used in part as a depot for Schlumberger's truck fleet that services drilling sites. The depot was to have separate washing, fueling and maintenance areas. It was also to have a laboratory and regional business office.
A storage area was planned to hold various types of ingredients used in drilling and hydro-fracturing wells. These were to include:
- cement
- chemical additives
- explosives
- radioactive materials
- sand
Construction had been planned to begin in June, 2009. The company's northeastern headquarters was to move to the facility from Pittsburgh, PA.
