As of the beginning of October, 3,644 leases had been recorded during 2008 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The county is one of the hotspots in the Marcellus shale development and is considered to be one of the thickest areas of the shale formation.
Chesapeake Energy has recorded 2,018 gas leases in 2008 which is by far the largest number.
