Richmond, Virginia-based Dominion Transmission Inc. (aka Dominion Energy) is one of the largest energy transporters and producers in the US with 7,800 miles of transmission, gathering and storage pipelines in six states. In specific, Dominion is a major mover of natural gas in West Virginia. The company also operates the largest gas storage system in the US with with a capacity of 975 billion cubic feet of storage. It retails energy in twelve states.

The company has a major gas processing and storage facility located in the unincorporated area of Hastings in Wetzel County, WV that it plans to expand. It is also working on a new fractionation plant on the Ohio River that is detailed on the Dominion Gas wiki page.

It has proposed the Keystone Pipeline to transport Pennsylvania and West Virginia natural gas to the Northeast.

Dominion was reported in September, 2008 as owning a two thirds working interest in approximately 600,000 to 800,000 acres of Marcellus shale mostly in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The remaining one third interest had been assigned to Antero Resources.

A further report in late September clarified that the actual acerage Antero was to own a working interest in amounted to 114,259. This deal closed September 30 with Dominion retaining a 7.5% royalty on the production of any wells drilled by Antero.

Dominion appears to have sold its entire interest in this leasehold to CNX Gas Corporation in the spring of 2010.

Antero is also anchor tenant of the proposed Keystone Pipeline.

According to an August, 2009 press release, Dominion and Williams Transco announced a joint venture called the Keystone Connector to market and develop a new pipeline to transport natural gas from the Rockies and southern Marcellus shale to markets in eastern U.S. cities.

At the end of September, 2009, Dominion announced that it had filed a plan with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for the Appalachian Gateway Project.
