Greene County, PA is located along the Pennsylvania and West Virginia border in the southwestern part of the state. It is bordered by three West Virginia counties, ranging from south to west, Monongalia, Wetzel and Marshall and two Pennsylvania counties, to the north and east, respectively, Washington and Fayette.
During 2011, Greene County had production of almost 119 Bcf of natural gas. 51.1 Bcf was produced in the first half of the year and 67.8 Bcf during the second half. By year-end 2011 Greene Co. had 283 producing Marcellus shale wells--up 49 wells from the previous year. It is one of the top producing counties in the state.
