Broome County, New York is a county in New York's Southern Tier that borders the State of Pennsylvania. It is sandwiched between New York's Tioga and Delaware Counties. A very thick layer of Marcellus shale trend extends northward into the county from Pennsylvania to a region slightly east of Binghamton. The county was in the news in June, 2009 when three landholder coalitions from Binghamton, Conklin, and Kirkwood were on the brink of signing a lease with Hess Corp and Seneca Resources.
