Mooncor Oil & Gas Corp. (TSX: V.MOO) is a a junior oil and gas exploration and development company. It was reported to be actively leasing in southwest Ontario and to have an initial 3,000 acre leasehold in the area. This region is considered to be part of the St. Lawrence lowlands. It is primarily focusing on shale gas projects.
Update: A news account appeared in April, 2010 to the effect that Mooncor had leased 23,000 acres protective for shale gas in Lambton and Kent counties, Ontario.
Mooncor was planning to spud a well in the 4th quarter of 2008 in Norfolk County, Ontario targeting the Trenton-Black River formation. It had access to an additional 25,000 acres of undeveloped land there through an agreement with another Ontario-based oil and gas exploration company.
The company provided an update in December, 2008 in which it stated that Mooncor now had 3000 acres in Lambton Township, southwest Ontario. It planned to focus there on a combination of shale and conventional plays. The company had drilled a test well on the property, but it was abandoned when the volume of gas did not prove commercial.
A press release appeared in June, 2010 indicating that Mooncor was in the process of spinning off a wholly-owned subsidiary, DRGN Energy Inc. ("DRGN"), to separately pursue development of its assets in southwestern Ontario. At the time, its holdings were described as being 22,425 net acres with 18,592 net acres of the total located in Kent and Lambton Counties, Ontario. Both are in the southwestern portion of the province. The area was believed to be prospective for Collingwood (Utica) shale.
