The Albany, New York-based New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is primarily a state-supported public benefit corporation that focuses on energy efficiency, research and development, providing energy benefits for low income consumers, and various innovative programs. The Authority is making available grants for the development of new technology to investigate less explored formations in the State such as Trenton-Black River or Herkimer/Oneida. In March, 2009 it was announced that Canadian-based Unbridled Energy Corp is working in conjunction with the Authority to test a location found with 2-D seismic testing over a deep natural structure using a test well drilled to the basement level of 7700 feet.
