St. Marys, West Virginia-based Trans Energy Inc. (TENG.OB) is an oil and gas exploration and development company focusing on the Appalachian Basin. It has drilled four vertical Marcellus shale wells. The Anderson-7H well, located near Jacksonburg in Wetzel County, West Virginia is its first horizontal one.
In October, 2008 the company announced it was in the process of drilling a second horizontal well in Wetzel County named Hart #28H also near Jacksonburg. The vertical part of the well will be drilled down to just above a kickoff point at about 6500 feet and set casing. A larger rig will then be brought in to drill the horizontal portion at a depth of around 7,000 feet.
The company announced that a third vertical Marcellus well, the Dewhurst #73, located on Arches Fork off W.Va. 20 in Wetzel County, was completed on December 16, 2008 with positive results. It was promptly hooked up to gas lines.
In early January, 2009 the company announced a forth vertical Marcellus well, the Blackshere #101, in Marion County just east of Wetzel County, had been successfully fraced at the end of December and is in the process of being hooked up to a gas line.
The company owns drilling rights to 26,000 acres in four northern West Virginia counties: Doddridge, Marion, Marshall, and Wetzel. It operates 271 wells in the State.
It is in the process of building a system of gas gathering pipelines that will connect to interstate pipelines.
