The Susquehanna River Basin Commission regulates water withdrawals from the Basin. Companies wishing to withdraw water from sources in the Basin must apply for permission from the Commission. As of September, 2008 eight companies had been approved to withdraw forty-one million gallons daily.
The Commission was established by the U.S. federal government and includes the States of Maryland, New York and Pennsylvania to manage and protect the Susquehanna River Basin's water resources.
