Seismic waves

Seismic waves are emitted by specially-equipped vehicles called thumper trucks which frequent rural highways in areas where gas is suspected. These trucks have electronic equipment on board that is used to bombard seismic waves into the surrounding ground. When these waves bounce back off underground features they are recorded electronically and used to maps out locations of the features.
