Current revision
The Dunkirk, New York-based SUNY Fredonia Shale Research Institute conducts basic research about shale gas deposits including the Marcellus shale. Its research concerns reservoir characteristics as they relate to exploration and production issues. The work is in part supported by Chesapeake Energy and EQT Corporation.
The Institute also acts in a liaison capacity between the public and industry regarding regulatory and leasing issues. It conducts various workshops and educational activities in pursuit of this mission.
