So far 74,000 acres have been leased to drilling companies, and the Department is planning to lease yet another 74,000 acres during 2009.
Update: As of August, 2010 almost 139,000 acres of state forest land had been leased to drilling companies since 2008. DCNR regarded its Marcellus shale acreage to be essentially fully leased.
