The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is the state agency in charge of leasing Pennsylvania's state public forest land. 75% of this land or 1.5 million acres has the Marcellus shale formation underneath it. So far 74,000 acres have been leased to drilling companies, and the Department is planning to lease yet another 74,000 acres during 2009.
