The E & P industry typically measures shale gas wells by by the first 30 days average production. The granddaddy of shale plays, the Barnett, produces 1.5 to 3.0 Mmcf/d. The Horn River in British Columbia averages 15 Mmcf/d, while the Marcellus, which in many areas overlays the Utica shale, averages approximately 5 Mmcf/d.
