In August, 2008 Williamsport, Pennsylvania-based GFI Oil & Gas entered into a lease agreement with the Ebensburg, Pennsyvania Borough Council in Cambria County to lease 1300 acres for natural gas drilling. GFI had been a newly organized company at the time of this lease.
A January, 2009 report indicated GFI was backing out of their contract with the Borough when the company failed to make a scheduled $2.6 million payment for development rights to the 1300 acres.
