Well site preparation consists of readying a plot of land, usually between 3 to 5 acres, for a drilling pad. The area is cleared and graded. Holding pits are created for water, drill cuttings and recovered drilling fluids. Parking space is provided for the numerous trucks required for hydro-fracturing the well once the drilling is finished. An access road is built from the nearest public thoroughfare.
