Houston, Texas-based Flotek Industries, Inc. is an oilfield service company that manufactures hydro-fracturing chemicals used in completing Marcellus shale wells.
During 2010, Flotek was involved in field testing encapsulated products for fracture stimulation of natural gas wells. The company considered that such encapsulated products could help transform the delivery system for chemicals into one that is more environmentally friendly than has been conventional industry practice.
According to a January, 2011 news item, Flotek was also involved in testing a biodegradable product for fracing that used citrus products as its main constituent.
