Centennial, Colorado-based MegaEnegy Inc is an independent natural gas exploration and production company focusing on the Appalachian Basin. It either leases or has operations in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Its primary emphasis is on Marcellus shale development, but secondarily on exploring Oriskany and Tuscarora sandstone formations as well as Utica shale.
The company holds 50,000 acres of undeveloped land, and participated in approximately 25 drilling projects by the end of 2008.
In July, 2010 MegaEnergy was reported drilling in either the Trenton-Black River (TBR) formation or else Oriskany sandstone in south central New York. From a map on the company web site, if TBR, it appears that the drilling site must be located near the town of Owego in Tioga County, New York. Were it Oriskany drilling, then from this same map, it should be located close to Troupsburg in Steuben County along the New York-Pennsylvania border.
